A Path to Before

Choreographed and Performed by: Laura Downey

Music: Hurt by Johnny Cash Arranged by: 2 Cellos

My piece, “A Path to Before,” is about revisiting a broken friendship in my past. The piece relives the good times and ultimately the reasons the friendship ceased. I used emotions such as hurt, longing, and, in the end, a sense of freedom that drove me to create the movements that comprise my piece. I used long lines and reaches to resemble longing as well as slow drawn-out movements. The pace increases toward the end of the piece resembling the climax of this friendship. The end of the piece resembles the closure received after reminiscing on this relationship.

Forward

Choreographed and Performed by: Mary Keyton

Music: Arrival by Tigger Benford

We all go through trials in our life. These trials bring us to a place where we feel stuck and confused. They also bring with them many different emotions that we do not ask for, anger, fear, worry, and much more. "Forward" shines a light on the power and comfort of taking those first steps into conquering our circumstances. As long as we keep moving forward every day, whether that is taking small steps or big victories, we have the power to accomplish and overcome our struggles. There is no going back, there is no living in the present, there is only "Forward".

Embodied Cognition

Choreographed and Performed by: Anne Nelson

Music: Dreams by Nuages
Gratitude by Fearless Motivation

Music Editing: Olivia Hadley

"Embodied Cognition" is a philosophical concept which describes how cognition is not confined to the brain but is grounded in the body and motor behaviors. The mind acts upon an environment in which the physical body is immersed and neural resources are shared between cognitive and sensorimotor processes. The mind is not only connected to the body, but the body influences the mind and is the joint between cognition and the external world.

“Embodied Cognition” tells the story of loss between the body and the mind after injury to its only pathway of connection, the spinal cord. From the discovery of stillness to transfers of physical support to the reconnection of disconnections, yoga, ballet, and aerial silks pave the “Unpaved” grounds of recovery through dance.
