Butch and Fairy by Samuel Achilles Edwards

A fairy and a butch meet and discover an attraction between them that they can't explain.

Aurora by Ramon Esquivel

Two people, Kai and Halen, met on the Aurora Bridge in Seattle in the middle of the night. Kai has come here to commit suicide, and Halen tries to stop the attempt. We learn that Halen committed suicide in the same spot two years earlier, and has reappeared to support Kai in a time of crisis. This play employs magical realism in an ultimately uplifting story about depression, grief, metaphysics, and the transcendent nature of love.

Content Warnings: Butch and Fairy/Aurora contain adult language, references to sexuality, references to suicide, and other mature subject matter

Director's Concept:

In this world, everything must be labeled to fit into a specific category. We isolate and discourage outliers who do not fit in our boxes. We strive to confine and streamline the human experience to make it easier for us to understand each other. Why can’t we simply exist as ourselves without labels? Why can’t we understand each other on a personal level instead of trying to define every aspect of ourselves for the consumption of others?

The queer community has always labeled itself to try to make their lives easier to understand. However, with the fluid nature of sexuality and gender, these labels never seem to be fully encompassing each unique individual. Instead of focusing on labels why don’t we focus on uniqueness and love?

This show focuses on the love between two people and the connection they share with each other and the world as a whole.

“The richness, beauty, and depths of love can only be fully experienced in a climate of complete openness, honesty, and vulnerability.” ~Anthony Venn Brown
